RCMRD and KENSJA forge closer working relationship

kensja visitOn 19 January 2010, RCMRD had the honour of hosting members of the Kenya Environmental and Science Journalists Association (KENSJA). The main purpose of the meeting was to formally introduce RCMRD to KENSJA journalist members and to forge a strong, symbiotic working relationship with them.  KENSJA’s mission is to give environment and science journalists and communicators a platform for professional development, local and international networking.

Giving his opening remarks, RCMRD’s Director General, Dr. Hussein Farah, noted that technical people and scientists tended to do a lot of good work, but the public was not aware of this, hence the need to forge relationships with journalists who are able to spread the word around. KENSJA Chairman, Mr. Ochieng Ogodo, reiterated the importance of journalists as the umbilical cord that provides a vital link for information flow between the general public and scientific and technical organizations, such as RCMRD.

During the meeting, the two organizations agreed to collaborate in the media coverage and promotion of SERVIR-Africa project, along with other RCMRD projects, coverage of RCMRD events, and incorporating KENSJA members in relevant RCMRD/SERVIR-Africa programs and activities.
