San Cristobal Volcano Erupts, Nicaragua - September 2009 E-mail

1,745 meters above sea leve, San Cristobal is the highest volcano in the Nicaraguan mountain range.  On September 6, 2009, an explosion of gases and ash was reported.  During the following days, the volcanic activity noramlized; however, this satellite image from September 7 still shows visible smoke produced by the volcano.  No damages were reported.

According to the preliminary analysis executed by CATHALAC, a smoke and dust plume was detected that spanned around 650 hectares.
