Hurricane Ike will be the story in the Caribbean |

Another major hurricane is approaching Cuba and may bring additional rain to Haiti's northern shore. Hurricane Ike is now a Category 3 storm on the Saffir-Simpson Hurricane scale. The track of the hurricane is shown below.
Unfortunately, the US media is only focusing on storms which hit the US. Gustav and Hanna brought considerable suffering to Haiti with over 160 people killed. The Guardian newspaper in England has an opinion piece on our narrowness of view of the "news". We hope this site will broaden our views of our neighbors throughout the Caribbean and Mesoamerica.
So if the fact that Ike will pound Cuba for several days doesn't wake you, the track above says that by next Sunday's post, I might be having to talk about a Hurricane which has tracked across the whole Gulf of Mexico and then come ashore in Houston or the more vulnerable Galveston/South Padre Island areas. Keep your eye on this storm and think of those who are in its way.
